A few scenes from the Neurocafe Tonbridge since it opened in April 2023,

P-CNS Exec Director, Neil Bindemann, collecting Tonbridge ‘superstar’ Pip Parsons, to be 102 in Nov 2025.

The May 2025, monthly Neurocafe.

What a treat it was for be joined by, possible Tonbridge’s oldest residents, Albert (Pip) Parsons, who is in his 102 year.

Given Pip being a wonderfully talented drummer for over 80 years, Pip was invited to share, how despite macular degeneration he continues to engage his senses and that natural feeling for rhythm, to make a cup of tea, by counting as he pours the kettle, and not spill any.

What he didn’t mention is how he also knows, through finely tuned wrist movements, (from the 80 years experience with drum sticks) to ensure the speed with which the water comes out matched with the counting. Amazing stuff!!
Then we had Mike, who is nurse and shared aspects of his approach to reversing his type 2 diabetes, which involved addressing his mental health. And given significant interest in music as a therapy, he shared his interest in how through tuning forks it is possible to feel the vibrations helping with “retuning” and rebalancing body and mind.

Hugh, who has been a regular to the Neurocafe since the Neurocafe began over 2 years ago, shared his experiences with art, from a very young age. This, we believe, was in part thanks to a forward thinking doctor, over 50 years ago. The doctor suggested that Hugh would fair well in art, as he had experienced a haemorrhage and then epilepsy diagnosis, shortly after birth. The suggestion is likely to have been partially down to his mum being an artist, plus an amazing story of art in the family; a story that is told in the feature film “Summer in February” – a wonderful film starring “Downton Abbey”, Dan Stevens, who went to Tonbridge School, which has another connection to the film, through one of the masters.

That was one of out best ever!

A selection of photos from various Neurocafes activities since 2023, including taking the Neurocafe stall out and about to meet the wider community, which involved a trip up to the Food Show at Chiddingston in 2024 with a trip to the local cottage hospital for Dementia Action Week 2025.
